Frequently Asked Questions

Detailed answers to the questions patients ask most before surgery.

Breast Augmentation

Is breast augmentation covered by RAMQ or private insurance?

No. RAMQ does not cover cosmetic breast augmentation and private insurers rarely do, so check with your carrier. The clinic charges a single all-inclusive fee covering implants, facility, anesthesiologist and surgeon, and financing can be discussed by phone.

How long will my results last?

Most patients keep their results long term after a single surgery. Implants are not lifetime devices, however, and can wear or fail over time.

Will the surgery leave a big scar?

The incision is usually 3.5 to 5 cm and placed in a natural skin crease, so the scar is short and well hidden. The best placement for your body is decided at your consultation.

Will I have pain, and for how long?

Implants placed over the muscle usually cause mild discomfort for less than a week. Placement under the muscle is more painful at first, but discomfort generally settles within two weeks.

When can I return to work?

Most people go back to light office work within 2 to 4 weeks. Physically demanding jobs may need around 6 weeks off.

Will I be able to breastfeed?

Modern techniques do not damage breast tissue, so your ability to breastfeed should not be affected.

How do implants affect breast cancer screening?

Screening is still recommended and mammograms can still be done, sometimes with special techniques for a clear view. Always tell your screening physician that you have implants.

Breast Reduction

Am I a candidate for a breast reduction?

Good candidates have large breasts causing neck, shoulder or back pain, are in good health and have realistic goals. Teenagers may be advised to wait until their breasts are fully developed.

How is a reduction different from a breast lift?

A lift tightens and reshapes the skin without removing tissue, so cup size stays the same. A reduction removes breast tissue, lowering volume and usually cup size.

What size can I go down to?

It depends on your breast shape and build, but most women go down about one cup size.

Where are the scars?

Around the nipple, down to the breast fold and along the fold beneath the breast. They start out red and fade to a paler tone over time.

Will I be able to breastfeed afterwards?

Some women can, but many cannot produce enough milk, so some choose to wait until they have finished having children.

What is recovery like?

It depends on your health, how much tissue is removed and the help you have at home. Most patients return to work within about four weeks.

Tummy Tuck

Am I a good candidate for a tummy tuck?

You should be in good health with realistic expectations. If you plan a pregnancy or significant weight loss, discuss it with Dr. Lee first, and wait until your weight is stable.

What should I expect after surgery?

Sitting and standing are uncomfortable for several days, so avoid straining, bending and lifting. Walking is encouraged early on to reduce the risk of blood clots.

When can I get back to normal activity?

Initial healing takes about 5 to 10 days. Avoid heavy lifting and intense exercise for around six weeks.

What if I get pregnant later?

Many women have had healthy pregnancies after a tummy tuck, though further surgery may be needed afterwards. Dr. Lee recommends waiting until you have finished having children.

Are the results permanent?

The skin and fat removed will not come back, but weight gain can affect your results, so a healthy diet and exercise help maintain them.

Will my stretch marks go away?

Stretch marks below the belly button are usually removed with the excess skin. Those above it or on the hips typically remain.
